11/15 - Composing a Children's Book - John McRae and Jona Brisske

Please join us on Friday, Nov. 15th at 6pm to hear the collaborative team behind the book The Adventures of Naomi and Noah discuss their creative process of writing and illustrating their forthcoming children's book.

John McRae

John is a registered practicing Architect, 1971-present, Professor Emeritus, and formerly active faculty member at three universities: The University of Florida, Mississippi State University,  and The University of Tennessee. He is a graduate of The University of Texas and Rice University. He is a fellow for American Institute of Architects (AIA) and has received numerous research grants/awards including National Endowment for the Arts, Gerontological Society of America, and, most recently, U.S. Dept of Health and Human Service grant addressing health and quality of life needs in Appalachia. John is currently a ceramic artist in Knoxville, Tn and has his work displayed in numerous galleries throughout the south and east coast. He loves drawing, painting, and story writing, and is the co-author of self-published children’s books, availabile at Union Ave Books. 

Jona Brisske

Jona began her architectural journey in pursuit of a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She later transferred to finish her undergraduate studies to focus on the more technical aspects of architecture. When pursuing a masters, she studied the sustainable and philanthropic side of architecture by designing a school in Haiti and approached the project from an experiential perspective. She graduated with honors and a longing to create spaces that utilize all of her learnings in architecture. Jona's professional experience includes involvement with architecture and interior design firms of various sizes in New York, Atlanta and Knoxville. In December of 2015, Jona launched her own practice in New York where she devotes herself to creating residential spaces that encompass her understanding of and love for the artistic, technical, sustainable and experiential facets of architecture and interior design. Jona and her team are currently located in Brooklyn, NY where they are working on large gut-renovations, small interior design projects and exciting collaborations with other design firms.
