Local Author Event Inquiry

SO YOU WANT TO HAVE AN EVENT AT UNION AVE BOOKS?

Hello newly published author! We are so glad you are requesting an event with us at Knoxville's indie bookstore. Because of our community's support, we are growing fast and having a higher volume of events being curated through this space. This requires us to be a bit more selective with the authors we host to guarantee a successful and sustainable event schedule. Please follow the below steps before reaching out to us as we love supporting local authors in the best way possible!

STEP 1: WHAT'S YOUR PRESS?

Because we are an independent bookstore, we do not order through Amazon. Instead we order through major publishing houses directly or through wholesalers Baker & Taylor and Ingram. If your press is imprinted or supplied through these methods, you are good to go! We can easily order an event quantiy of your book at a designated discount. If not that probably means you are with a small press or self-published title that requires more review on our end. 

STEP 2: WHAT'S YOUR CONNECTION TO UNION AVE?

Now, maybe you don't have the ordering cred, but you are a rocking local! Have you hosted an event with us before? Are your books already on consignment here? Do you frequent our store regularly? Do you have a close connection to someone on our staff or community? If you answer 'yes' to all of these you might fulfill the two categories we require for hosting an event:

1. Proven history of sales at Union Ave Books.

2. Active relationship w/ our community and clientele.

This helps us guarantee event sales and attendance and a happy convivial experience all around! We support people who support us!

STEP 3: HOW ABOUT CONSIGNMENT?

If you've gotten this far, there's still hope! We will take 2 copies of anyone's published work we deem a good fit for our store on consigment at a 60 (you)/ 40 (us) split. Simply bring the copies in and leave an address and contact for us to mail a check once those quantities sell. If your book starts selling like crazy and we keep having to ask for more, then we may consider hosting an event for you!

STEP 4: TALKE TO DAVIS, YET?

Now, you've considered where your book can be ordered from, your local connection to Union Ave, and you've brought your books in on consignment. It's time to talk to the events organizer, Davis Shoulders! You can email him about your event proposal at events@unionavebooks.com. Even if you've already mentioned it to someone else on staff, or Flossie McNabb directly, please send the following information in a brief email message to Davis.

1. Book info (press, pub date, title, isbn, etc.)

2. Basic synopsis of the book.

3. Marketing and outreach details. What kind of audience is gonna show? Do you have any local organization who will help get the word out? Potential join author or in-conversation expert to join you?

4. When you want the event to occur. (Heads up we book weekdays at 6pm and weekends at 2pm.)
