Description

Gardening in the northern prairie region of the United States is very different from gardening in other areas of the country. It is important to understand that some of the gardening tips gleaned from other books do not give satisfying results on the prairie. This book offers specific advice for gardening in the northern prairie regions of the United States, including the Dakotas and south central Canada. In addition, the book offers thorough, easy to understand advice for both the novice and experienced gardener, no matter where the garden is located.

About the Author

Elaine Faulkner Willenbring was born and raised in Mandan, North Dakota, where her parents, Hattie and Dennis Faulkner gardened and sold fresh produce at the market they opened in 1943. She majored in Biology at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota and went on to graduate school at North Dakota State University where she met her botanist-garden-tiller husband, Roys. After she earned her Masters degree in biology, they moved back to Mandan, and she began to help her mother run Faulkner's Market, now a garden and seed store. She eventually bought and expanded the business and served as its proprietor for many years before retiring in 2011 to tend her garden full time, which she continues to do with a charming, calculated passion and scientific zeal.
