Description

Other books give you the facts — BEING A GIRL tells you the truth!

Being a girl is awesome. It can also be really, really hard. And no one knows that better than girls who are going through it right now. From BFFs to Mean Girls, selfies to self-esteem, pimples and periods and peer pressure, Being a Girl tells it like it is. Friendly, funny, reassuring, and totally honest, this is the book mothers will wish they had had when they were younger, and the one girls will turn to again and again.

About the Author

Hayley Long began writing teen fiction while working as an English teacher in Cardiff, Wales. Her first teen novel, LOTTIE BIGGS IS NOT MAD, was awarded the White Raven label for outstanding children's literature by the International Youth Library. Since then, her fingers haven't stopped typing. Hayley has been a winner of the Essex Book Award, and WHAT'S UP WITH JODY BARTON? was shortlisted for a Costa Book Award.

Illustrator Gemma Correll is one of the few people in the universe who has managed to turn her love of pugs into a lucrative career. She has exhibited all over the world, in China, the US and Europe, and was the recipient of a Young Guns award from the Art Directors Club of New York. She's the author of THE WORRIER'S GUIDE TO LIFE, also published by Andrews McMeel.

Praise For…

"Correll's quirky cartoons create a lively presentation. Long's frank, sympathetic advice will be welcomed by girls seeking affirmation during a time of change." (Publisher's Weekly)

"This breezy primer, peppered with Correll's genial cartoon illustrations...is a good starting point for younger teens, and Long's ultimate message—there isn't one right way to be a girl—is a good one." (Sarah Hunter, Booklist)

"Empowering, fun, and helpful—a title teen girls will be sure to cherish." (Jenny Berggren, School Library Journal)

When I had finished the book, I knew more about myself… It felt like I was talking to a real girl/woman who has been there before…The book felt very personal. I loved everything about Being A Girl. It is one of the only books about this kind of stuff that isn’t: A) a boring book of facts or B) super cheesy…I recommend it for (GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!) ages ten to fifteen.” (Farrah - age ten, Kids' BookBuzz)

"[The book] helps young girls with the adorable illustrations and the information about what real girls face...My daughter told me she likes this book a lot because it covers topics she doesn't always want to talk to me about." (Kelly's Thoughts on Things Blog)
