Description
Longing to Belong is the candid story of Sasi Kala, a woman who left her native Nepal three decades ago to raise a family in North America. Her observations of life in Canada, advice on navigating a new and confusing cultural landscape, and astonishment at the rapid changes transforming the homeland she left behind will resonate with many in our increasingly globalized and mobile world. A quintessential immigrant story of when dreams and expectations clash with reality, Sasi recounts her experiences with hope, humour and optimism, offering the same to those who have found themselves in the same situation.
About the Author
I am Sasi Kala as the author of the books: Longing to Belong: An Immigrant Woman's Story and Cultural Heritage of the Nepalese. I am also Bina Sharma in my degrees and certificates. I was born and brought up in Kathmandu, Nepal. I was 25 years old when I left Nepal with less than 2-year old baby girl to join my husband, Basu, in the U.S.A. Our second child was born in the U.S. My family moved to Canada after Basu completed his Ph.D. Our family is the very first immigrants from Nepal settled in Fredericton, New Brunswick three and a half decades ago! I am also an MBA alumna of the University of New (UNB). I have taught a human resource course at UNB and have worked for the government of New Brunswick for a few years. I am genuinely interested in the sociocultural issues. All my activities, including my publications, appearances on T. V. and radios in Fredericton, have been within these parameters. Basu and I have three conscientious beautiful grownup children, born in three different countries! Our family has lived in six different countries and have travelled to a dozen more.
