The marine iguana is best known for its ability to eat in shallow marine waters. They are herbivores and consume a marine alga that grows underwater and along rocky shorelines. They move in the water like a snake and graze by holding themselves against the bottom with their long claws. Even though they feed in the water, marine iguanas mostly live on land. They nest along the shore and are frequently observed basking in the sun.
